Movie Trailer Monday: Star Trek Into Darkness

star-trek-into-darkness-mockupYou can tell a studio is serious about a movie when the trailer releases are many and not too far between. That seemed to be the case with Prometheus, the movie that couldn’t stop dropping hints before it even aired. And it’s definitely the case with the latest installment in the Abrams relaunch of Star Trek, entitled Star Trek: Into Darkness. And so for my third MTM, I’ve decided to post the third trailer for this upcoming movie.

This time around, there’s plenty of action to behold, plus some genuine hints as to what the bad guy is doing and what his deal truly is. Thanks to the previous two trailers, we already knew that Benedict Cumberbatch would be playing the lead villain and that this movie follows the rule of Act II being the darker story. We also knew that this time around, Kirk’s mettle will be tested as he’s forced to go beyond his usual combination of daring and bravado.

And with this latest teaser, some hints are given as to what exactly is motivating the villain and how Kirk and crew will be forced to deal with him. Apparently, it involves a massive terror attack against the Federation which cripples it by taking out its leadership. And what’s more, I believe that Cumberbatch, who’s character is rumored to be named Khan and who sound a lot like the original, will be stepping into the role once occupied by Ricardo Montelban. Fingers crossed at any rate, because that would be cool!

And of course, it’s an exciting watch. So enjoy it and join me in waiting eagerly for the May 17th theatrical release!

Movie Trailer Monday: Star Trek Into Darkness!

StartrekintodarknessposterHey guys, thought I’d get into a new habit around here and start posting previews for new movies on a regular basis. Might prove difficult to find a new preview every week, but the way I see it, people like a routine they get in on. And what’s nicer on a Monday than catching a trailer that makes you excited for an upcoming flick. Tell me that doesn’t beat the Monday blahs!

And here is the latest trailer from JJ Abram’s upcoming Star Trek sequel. Unlike the first which was resoundingly dark (had to be with a name like Into Darkness!) and focused on Benedict Cumberbatch – who plays bad guy Khan – this one is more centered on Kirk. And what’s also nice is the mention of a future city other than San Fransisco. And of course, plenty of action too!

Enjoy, and see you next Monday!

Star Trek 2 Teaser Trailer

And wouldn’t you know it, it seems that the good people over at Movieclips have also released a teaser for the upcoming Star Trek 2 movie. Like all teasers, it doesn’t tell us much. But a few things are clear. For one, it’s likely going to focus on the discovery of some new alien species – or at least new from a prequel standpoint. Then again, since they established that the new movies take place in an alternate timeline, anything is possible. Second, it’s abundantly clear that Abrams will be returning the director’s seat and that the ensemble from the first movie will be reuniting.

On top of all that, it is revealed by the source that Benedict Cumberbatch, the British actor known for his roles in War Horse, Atonement, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and the upcoming adaptation of The Hobbit, will be making his Trek debut as the villain. It’s all set for release sometime in 2013. And since The Hobbit will be debuting around the same time, it’s sure to be a good year for movie-goers, and Cumberbatch! Check out the trailer below.
