Harrison Ford went on Jimmy Kimmel Live recently to promote his upcoming movie 42. However, things went a bit awry when questions turned to the issue of the upcoming Star Wars relaunch and audience members began asking questions. That’s when someone from Harrison Ford’s past showed up and things got ugly, prompting Ford to say some harsh things and storm off the set.
Ha! It was hilarious! Who knew Ford and the Chewbacca had such history? Watch the clip below and have a good laugh…
Hi again folks. I know I’ve already satisfied this weeks quota for trailers, but I thought we could all use some good news. Over the weekend, a terrible tragedy took place in Boston and I thought it might do some good to remind people that some nice things happened as well. One of which was the release of the new trailer for the upcoming The Hunger Games sequel, known as Catching Fire.
The trailer premiered at the MTV movie awards this weekend, showcasing a new visual style, and providing a first glimpse of heroine Katniss Everdeen as champion of the Games, how this is having the effect of inspiring opposition to the Panem government, and how the president and his cronies intend to bring her down.

Hello people and welcome back to another installment of MTM! Today, its a full-length trailer for the upcoming movie Elysium, a dystopian tale that takes place in the year 2159, where the class divide between rich and poor extends into orbit. The very wealthy live on a man-made space station (named Elysium) while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth.
Into this, a cybernetically-enhanced man from Earth takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds. Written and directed by Neil Blomkamp, who wrote District 9, and starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley (who played the protagonist of District 9), the sci-fi makes use of a lot of classic dystopian themes and showcases some very impressive looking sets.
I for one shall bookmark this movie as a must-see/must rent/catch on Netflix/worst-case-scenario must download. Stuff happens, what can I say?
Guess what? In this new age of reboots, relaunches and reimaginings, it seems that not a single cult classic is immune. Case in point, the eponymously named sequel Riddick, which is set for release in early September of 2013. Though there are minimal hints provided concerning the plot of this third installment, it seems clear at this point that Riddick is once again on the run from mercenaries and ends up on a planet teeming with hostile life.
Going back to their origins, I take it? Personally, I would prefer seeing what happened after Riddick took control of the entire Necromonger army. And if some tells me this is what followed, i.e. he chose to ditch all that and go back on the run, I’ll totally write this movie off! You can’t tell me he likes being hunted by mercs and living hand to mouth THAT much! I mean there’s recidivism and then there’s just plain dumb!

Here it is, hot off the studio cutting room floor! Actually, I’m pretty sure these trailers get made well in advance and are released periodically with little more than a word from the studio. But whatever, you get the point. This trailer for the upcoming adaptation of Max Brook’s zombie-apocalypse novel, World War Z, is brand new and making the rounds. And just in time for the third installment of MTM (or not!)
Word is the movie will be coming out on June 21st, 2013 in 2D and 3D. But of course, that’s to be taken with a grain of salt since the release has been pushed back twice already. And word around the movie forums is that one of the original screenwriter didn’t even have time to complete work on the third act and someone else had to be brought in to finish it.
Still, the previews are nothing if not enticing and full of some malevolent, teeth-rattling action sequences. So who really cares if its totally different from the book? All that really matters is that they do the zombie apocalypse right!
Google, makers of the fame internet search engine, investors in future tech, and pioneers in commercial space flight (and no stranger to practical jokes, fyi) has just released a video for a new system known as Google Nose Beta. For too long, the video claims, people have been restricted when searching the internet, relying on clumsy explanations and words that just don’t capture the proper feel of what they are looking for.
And what’s more, the internet is so often a feast for the eyes and the ears, but sadly neglects an all-important sense that is so near and dear to our hearts. When it comes right down to it, our olfactory senses go beyond simply observing and witnessing and phenomena and make us a part of it. So why haven’t we found a way to include smells into our daily internet activity?
Apparently, this new system combines “photons with infrasound waves” and “temporarily aligns molecules to emulate a particular scent,” Google Nose allows users to experience simulated smells from various environments. And when it comes to identifying them, users can rely on the “mobile aroma indexing program” at the heart of the product which has amassed a “15 million scentibyte database of smells from around the world.”
And this is just the latest in a long string of quirky (and hilariously impossible) inventions brought to you by Google. Who can forget the 2007 TiSP, “a self-installed, ad-supported online service that will be offered entirely free to any consumer with a WiFi-capable PC and a toilet connected to a local municipal sewage system.” And what about Gmail Paper, a service that Google said would allow Gmail users to request paper copies (via postal service, of course) of their emails?
Sound too good to be true? Well that’s because it is, not to menti0n pretty damn ridiculous. But like any good sci-fi geek, it made me wonder, “just what would it take to make something like this real?” Within seconds, I was wondering if a quantum internet could theoretically beam particles into your laptop that would simulate a certain scent, but that’s as far as I got.
I think that’s the downside to being a geek. Our imaginations often mean we have a tenuous grasp on what’s real and what’s not. In the meantime, check out the hilarious video below, and learn more about this latest prank by clicking here.

People may remember these folks from their musical parody of The Hobbit, where Gandalf and the drawves show up at Bilbo’s house to the tune of “Shots” by LMFAO. Well they’re back, this time with a much needed spoof of the latest Twilight debacle, set to the tune of Gangnam Style.
I think you’ll agree, the production values and costume work in this spoof are downright marvelous! I’m not sure who they have playing Edward here, but the words Dead Ringer came to mind a few times! And Hillary Hindi, I swear, just BECOMES Bella, only she has a much greater range and can do more than just stand there and look sardonically unimpressed!
And let’s not forget the dance choreography. I’m sure the Gangnam people demanded royalties, given the close approximation between this spoof and their weird-ass video.
But of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that the ever-talented sisters, Hilly & Hannah Hindi, have chosen to shed the dwarf and hobbit garb in favor of vampire outfits and colored contacts in this video. Much more becoming than all that facial and foot hair, I tell ya 😉

Last year, researchers at UCLA made a fantastic, albeit accidental, when a team of scientists led by chemist Richard Kaner devised an efficient method for producing high-quality sheets of graphene. This supermaterial, which won its developers the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics, is a carbon material that is known for its incredible strength and flexibility, which is why it is already being considered for use in electronic devices, solar cells, transparent electrodes, and just about every other futuristic high-tech application.
Given the fact that the previous method of producing graphene sheets (peeling it with scotch tape) was not practical, the development of the new production process was already good news. However, something even more impressive happened when Maher El-Kady, a researcher in Kaner’s lab, wired a small square of their high quality carbon sheets to a lightbulb.
After showing it to Dr. Kaner, the team quickly realized they had stumbled onto a supercapacitor material – a high-storage battery that also boasts a very fast recharge rate – that boasted a greater energy storage capacity than anything currently on the market. Naturally, their imaginations were fired, and their discovery has been spreading like wildfire through the engineering and scientific community.
The immediate benefit of batteries that use this new material are obvious. Imagine if you will having a PDA, tablet, or other mobile device that can be charged within a matter of seconds instead of hours. With batteries so quick to charge and able to store an abundant supply of volts, watts, or amperes, the entire market of consumer electronics would be revolutionized.
But looking ahead, even greater applications become clear. Imagine electric cars that only need a few minute to recharge, thus making the gasoline engine all but obsolete. And graphene-based batteries could be making an impact when it comes to the even greater issue of energy storage with regards to solar and other renewable energy sources.
In the year since they made their discovery, the researchers report that El-Kady’s original fabrication process can be made even more efficient. The original process involved placing a solution of graphite oxide on a plastic surface and then subjecting it to lasers to oxigenate and turn the solution into graphene. A year ago, the team could produce only a few sheets at a time, but now have a scalable method which could very quickly lead to manufacturing and wide-scale technological implementation.
As it stands, an electric car with a recharge rate of a few minutes is still several years away. But Dr. Kaner and his team expect that graphene supercapacitors batteries will be finding their way into the consumer world much sooner than anyone originally expected. According to Kaner, his lab is already courting partners in industry, so keep your eyes pealed!
Combined with the new technologies of lithium-ion and nanofabricated batteries, we could be looking at a possible solution to the worlds energy problem right here. What’s more, it could be the solution that makes solar, wind, and other renewable sources of energy feasible, efficient, and profitable enough that they will finally supplant fossil fuels and coal as the main source of energy production worldwide.

It seems we’re in for a bit of a two-fer today. Its become a habit of mine to post trailers for upcoming movies on Mondays now. However, it just so happens that while I was doing my due diligence for one, I came across a second must-see teaser which I had to pass on. This one is for the third season of Game of Thrones, which premiers in less than one week!
And I think you’ll agree, this one is definitely the biggest and baddest. Whereas the first gave us nothing but some voice over and a simple graphic (like the one featured above), and the second gave us a brief glimpse with a little eye candy, this one has gone the full nine yards and covered all the major bases.
In addition to all the intrigue and plots taking place in Kings Landing, we are given some quick glimpses of the ongoing War of Five Kings, Danearys’ efforts to obtain an army in Slavers Bay, John Snow’s time amongst the Wildlings and their efforts to bring down the Wall, Brienne and Jaime in the Riverlands, Stannis’ ongoing attempts to fulfill an ancient prophecy, and even Bran’s journey to the far North.
And fittingly, they gave the voice over for the whole thing to Stannis, who performs the “We do not choose our destiny speech”. Though he is referring to himself in this speech and the role he thinks he will play, it pretty much sums up what everyone in the series is going through at this point. Beyond all the warring, intrigue and personal ambitions, it is fast becoming clear that there is a greater plot at work. But for those of you who haven’t read the many tomes that make up this series, I guess you’ll just have to wait to see what it is!

You can tell a studio is serious about a movie when the trailer releases are many and not too far between. That seemed to be the case with Prometheus, the movie that couldn’t stop dropping hints before it even aired. And it’s definitely the case with the latest installment in the Abrams relaunch of Star Trek, entitled Star Trek: Into Darkness. And so for my third MTM, I’ve decided to post the third trailer for this upcoming movie.
This time around, there’s plenty of action to behold, plus some genuine hints as to what the bad guy is doing and what his deal truly is. Thanks to the previous two trailers, we already knew that Benedict Cumberbatch would be playing the lead villain and that this movie follows the rule of Act II being the darker story. We also knew that this time around, Kirk’s mettle will be tested as he’s forced to go beyond his usual combination of daring and bravado.
And with this latest teaser, some hints are given as to what exactly is motivating the villain and how Kirk and crew will be forced to deal with him. Apparently, it involves a massive terror attack against the Federation which cripples it by taking out its leadership. And what’s more, I believe that Cumberbatch, who’s character is rumored to be named Khan and who sound a lot like the original, will be stepping into the role once occupied by Ricardo Montelban. Fingers crossed at any rate, because that would be cool!
And of course, it’s an exciting watch. So enjoy it and join me in waiting eagerly for the May 17th theatrical release!
